Welcome to KidLit Cares, an online talent auction to benefit the Red Cross relief effort to help communities recover from Superstorm Sandy. Agents, editors, authors, illustrators and other generous people have donated various services to be auctioned off to the highest bidder, with donations being made directly to the Red Cross disaster relief fund. Helaine Becker is the author of more than 50 books for children, including the #1 Canadian National Bestseller, A Porcupine in a Pine Tree.

Helaine is offering a 45-minute Skype school visit, during which she will provide numerous teachable moments (how to come up with ideas, the importance of revision, choosing excellent vocabulary) as well as make kids laugh so hard they fall out of their seats. She will also read the ever-popular Ode to Underwear.

Gary Schmidt is a professor of English at Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He received both a Newbery Honor and a Printz Honor for Lizzie Bright and the Buckminster Boy and a Newbery Honor for The Wednesday Wars. He lives with his family on a 150-year-old farm in Alto, Michigan, where he splits wood, plants gardens, writes, and feeds the wild cats that drop by.

Erin Dealey writes in many genres, from board books to YA. Her newest picture book, DECK THE WALLS (Sleeping Bear Press/ Fall 2013) is a kids’-eye view of a holiday food fight and family. A former SCBWI co-Regional Advisor, Dealey is an experienced K-12 Language Arts/ theater teacher, actor, and motivational speaker.
